East Face. Mt. Whitney (14,450')
5.7 III
The East Face of Whitney is a recommended climb, a highlight of the California
Sierras. While it is rather moderate, it has some wild exposure that catches
you off the couch. We went with Brian on August 2004 and did the climb in
the day. We started at 3am, or around that, and get to the base of the climb
by 7am. Then we blasted to the top, simul climbing a good bunch of it.
Then we put some obnoxious comments in the summit register, which in retrospective
we regret and made our way down to the Whitney portal store before 6pm. But
we had the unpleasant surprise that they had run out of potatoes, so we were
left without the mythical French fries. GGGRRHHH!!!
