Eric and I went to ski Bloody Couloir in January 2002. Following a series of windy storms, most of the ridges were bare but the gully was well filled up. We followed the dirt road covered with snow leading to the Laurel Lakes, at the bottom of the couloir. After a break we started to go up the 2000' gully. I was going more slowly and stopped at the bottom of the central section. Eric kept going until he stopped finally about 300' below the summit, because he was concerned with the presence of wind slabs. He skied the left gully, the right one being a bit steeper and more windslabbled. On the way down, he had some good hard snow that allowed him to get some good turns. The couloir was not as steep as we thought it would be, most of it is at about a 40 degree pitch.

goes up from there for 2000'. We skied the leftmost gully.
This is the view from where Eric stopped, with the
couloir dropping below his feet.
