Independence Peak East Gully

On Sunday, April 17 2005, we went with Anne Laure, Dan and Alan to ski Independence Peak’s East Gully. It looks small from the road, but it has a good 3000ft vertical. We started skiing from 8000ft at 7am.

The sun was out and although the snow in the shady bottom part of the gully was hard, the upper slopes were baking in the sun.

We thought we had timed it right, but as we got there, the sun got covered by clouds. The snow became hard immediately. We were at the top at 10am and we dropped after lunch.

The gully was hard snow but enjoyable. At the bottom of the gully Alan found out he had dropped his camera, so he went up for another run. We, in turn went up the north gully to the boulder and enjoyed some corn with Anne Laure and Dan.

Then we went to the car and had beers, coffee, whisky and beef stew while we enjoyed dirty jokes.

On the way back, there were some snow bancks on the side of the road.
