Mt. Russell 14,000 ft

On the May the 1st, 2005, Alan, Dave, John, Scott and I headed up the South Face of  Carrillon. Dave, Alan and I were heading towards Russull's Summit, by
the East Ridge route. John and Scott wanted to ski the very nice looking South Face of Carrillon. I can tell you that that scree slope is much nicer to travel with skis than in the summer. We started from Upper Boy Scout Lake at 9am, after a leisurely breakfast.

From the south face of Carrillon we could see great views of Whitney, and the needles.

We were at the top of the slope at 11am..
We took it easy in the Russell-Carrillon Plateau, taking pics of Whitney and scoping lines. Alan rig a set of sun glasses with duck tape. He used the some Rayban optics from a set that was no longer operational. Since we were doing this for fun, we took another laisurly meal, this time lunch. So at 12:30pm we started the ridge.

The ridge was mostly low angle slabs, good rock jugs, and covered with powder, so it was ok to do in ski boots, at least at the begining.

After a and hour and a half (2pm), we reached the col before the East Summit. Then the ridge became more steep, slaby and the powder was not deep enough to provide a confortable progress, so we called that a day.

The descent was very fast, we did it in 30min.

The ski of the Carrillon face was very, very good. We hit the best snow on the weekend there.

We broke camp at 4pm and descended. The Whitney fall was looking fat!.

So this is the south face of Carrillon.

We were in the car by 5:10pm.
