Sardine Canyon in Kearsearge Peak, 12,600ft

On Saturday, March the 26th, Rachel, Tim and I went to ski the Sardine Canyon on Kearsearge. Rachel and Tim had a late start so Alan and I head up at 7am  from 7,800ft to the Onion Valley parking, then continue following a creek on to the northwest. Soon we were skirting west around Kearsearge, on the southern flank. The sun was strong and Alan started balling up bad. He was on a split decision, and these fat boards are very sticky. When the creeck splits, we climbed up a steep gully to the northeast for 1000ft to the crest of Kearsearge, at 12noon.

After lunch, we dropped to the Sardine Canyon on the north side of the peak.

The snow was wind blown, and obvious signas of avalanche activity from the day before were present on similar aspects, so we were a bit scared.

One big avalanche that stated on one of the gullies on the north side of Kearsearge had swept a large part of the canyon. It had a 2ft crown.
