The Nevahbe ridge off Mount Morgan North has a
bunch of gullies facing east. They all look like great skis and a bunch of
us went there late February 2002. Eric, Dan, Pedro, Dave, Allan Tanner and
I did the approach from McGee Creek Road after having dug out and towed my
truck... We started going up a little valley along the ridge until we found
the gully we wanted to ski. It went up getting more narrow after a few hundred
feet. The crux involved going past a short icefall (maybe 5-6 feet long)
by rockclimbing on the side. Allan was no rockclimber and decided to turn
back, as did Pedro later on. Dave, Eric, Dan and I kept going up a 45 degree
ramp to the larger bowls sitting on top of it. We were booting up at that
point but soon started skinning up again. Dave and Eric made it to the top
and had lunch before enjoying some nice wintery snow on the top headwall.
I stayed low since I was not feeling right with my new skis. Eric, Dave
and Dan had to take a few tight turns on the narrow ramp before jumping the
icefall. It was a lot of excitement! I downclimbed the thing as I did not
feel comfortable skiing it down with my new light setup. I had to slide down
the icefall, which was probably more scary!!
