Powderbrum (11000')
Powderbrum is the name we give to a peak located just next to San Joaquin
Mountain in the June Lake area. It is about 11000' high and the way to the
top is through forests and therefore is very well protected. This run is
the safest we know to be done just after big snowfalls. We skied it quite
a few times in 2001, 2002 and 2003. In January 2001 Al, Dave, Fred, Eric and
me. The powder was knee-deep and the pitch of the run is such that it is
pure enjoyment from top to bottom. However, Dave, who has Teleskis, started
a few Telemark turns and broke his ski by going on top of a sharp rock. Fortunately,
he was still able to ski down, but without having all the fun possible...
Al having some fun in the fresh powder...
... skiing in the trees...
... but sometimes there are too many obstacles!
