Mount Locke (12,500') - Wahoo Gully

Wahoo Gully is THE classic ski descent in spring. It is a popular trip located near Bishop, and accessible via the Buttermilks Road. Eric and I went there in May 2000. The gully faces east and melts out usually quite rapidly as summer comes. We had to hike for about an hour before getting on snow. The gully was full of rollers (signs of how warm it was) and I decided to boot up while Eric skied up the gully. At the top, we met two hot Colorado chicks who went down elegantly telemarking, and a trio of backcoutry skiers we'd already met, including one snowboarder smoking some weed before the descent! Although the ski descent is not extreme (35 degrees), we carefully watched the guy to make sure he was making it down in one piece...
